Jens Hauser
Researcher, writer & curator
Jens Hauser is a media studies scholar, writer and art curator. Based in Paris, he explores the relationships between art, science and technology, with particular attention to the transformations of the living in contemporary cultures. At the intersection of art history and epistemology, he developed the notion of biomediality, an approach that analyses how artistic practices question forms of life through media and technologies.
He is currently a researcher at the Medical Museion of the University of Copenhagen and a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Michigan State University, where he co-directs the BRIDGE artist residency programme. He has also served as professor of art history at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Trained in science and technology journalism, he has spent several decades developing research that connects artistic production, scientific knowledge and technological cultures.
As a curator, Jens Hauser has organised numerous international exhibitions and festivals devoted to artistic practices engaging with biotechnologies, media and experimental forms of performance and image-making. Since the 1990s he has also worked with the European cultural channel ARTE, for which he has directed and produced numerous reports, documentary films and radio programmes on art, science and contemporary culture.
