Murielle Bedot

A Martinican dancer and choreographer, Murielle Bedot has spent more than sixteen years exploring the body as a territory of memory, emotion and transformation. A state-certified jazz dance teacher, she has forged a distinctive choreographic language, informed by her Afro-Caribbean roots, by mental preparation and by a deep attentiveness to the body.

Her work sits at the crossroads of Afro-contemporary dance, physical theatre and the ritual dimension of movement. Through her pieces, she questions posture, presence and female power, always seeking to connect flesh and spirit, the individual and the collective, the visible and the invisible.

As artistic director of the company SEL, she conceives the stage as a space of liberation and elevation. Her pieces, like her workshops and performances, celebrate the strength of the Black body, the courage of vulnerability and the reclaiming of inner power.

Murielle is committed to revealing the beauty of raw gesture — gesture born of reality, of pain, of breath, of silence. An engaged choreographer, she collaborates with artists from a range of disciplines — dance, music, visual arts, writing — to create sensitive, striking works that are both introspective and universal. Her approach seeks to reconnect audiences with their own bodies, their humanity and their fierce will to live.
