Torcany
Singer-songwriter, pop and MPB
Torcany is a singer-songwriter working between pop and MPB, Brazilian popular music. His music grows from a simple reminder: happiness lives in small things.
It all began in Angola, where he learned classical guitar, taught at music schools and led choirs. After moving to Portugal, he took his music to the streets, and it was there, among passers-by stopping to listen, that he found his voice and his audience. Through these street encounters he has sung with Jota.pê, Alceu Valença and Rafael Portugal.
He has released the singles “Rio Ripoll”, “Tóxico” and “Amigo & Irmão”, followed by the EP “Praça”, the story of his journey from his homeland to Lisbon. He has played his own songs in more than ten independent, intimate concerts in Portugal, and took the main stage at the Festa Major de Sabadell, near Barcelona, in front of more than 5,000 people in 2025. In October 2026, a street performance in Lisbon passed 3.5 million views. His songs speak of simplicity, the strength to follow your dreams and life as a couple.
In Martinique, he leads an exploration residency. He sets out to meet the island, its practices and its music, from bèlè to biguine and zouk, and follows the threads that connect Angola and Martinique: the African heritage that resonates in the bèlè drum, the Caribbean zouk that fed Angolan kizomba. A musician of encounters, he plays with local musicians, writes in contact with places and people, and sings wherever people stop to listen, just as he does in the streets of Lisbon. These weeks give rise to new songs, collaborations with Martinican artists and a concert shared with the public, the first step in a musical dialogue between Angola, Portugal and Martinique.
