Noor-Sharina Grondin

For more than a decade, Noor-Sharina Grondin has built a career at the intersection of community cultural work, popular education and teaching, notably in French, history and geography. These experiences have led her to explore the links between transmission, memory and creation, while informing her reflection on questions of representation in postcolonial societies.

A researcher in contemporary history and art history, she is writing her doctoral thesis on Martinican urban music cultures since 2008, with a particular focus on the circulation of dancehall shatta. Her research approaches these aesthetics as spaces for the affirmation and production of female and feminist discourses, and as territories of identity, gender and bodily performance. Drawing together social history, musicology, gender studies, the anthropology of dance and postcolonial studies, Noor-Sharina Grondin situates her work within an approach that is at once critical, sensitive and engaged with the contemporary cultural practices of the Caribbean.
